An Interview…
…with Shape Design House!
I shared my response to some thought-provoking questions about my tattooing journey. Below, I have re-created this conversation for you to enjoy!
Q: What subject matter do you enjoy drawing/tattooing the most?
A: I will never get tired of drawing botanicals and animals. The sheer volume and diversity in the botanical space mean there is no shortage of new things to draw. I am particularly fond of drawing birds and mammals; I love the details in the feathers and fur. I have 2 rabbits at home and they are consistently my muses. Other recent interests include drawing object d’art such as antiquities, vintage objects, and more specifically, matryoshka dolls.
Q: What was the first tattoo you ever gave and did it turn out well?
A: The first tattoo I ever did was a hand-poked tattoo on my left ankle of a leaping rabbit. It is still one of my favourite tattoos on my body!
Q: What differences have you noticed between illustration and tattoo work?
A: For me, illustration and tattooing have more commonalities than differences. When I first started my tattoo journey, I felt like I was exploring a new medium that would add another skillset to my artistic repertoire. Despite the similarities however, there are definitely a lot of differences in the mediums including being adaptable to the variety of skin textures and tones, while also understanding the needs and desires of your clients. Tattooing is definitely a more high-stakes art form, so the differences reflect the permanence and type of canvas you are working on.
